The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has issued a strong warning to the public about fraudulent vehicle auction announcements falsely attributed to the authority. It has urged citizens to verify any such information through official channels to avoid falling prey to scams.
In an official statement, the GRA disclosed that a fake media release, dated December 3, 2024, is being circulated. The document falsely claims to announce a vehicle auction under the authority of the Commissioner-General.
“The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has sighted a fake media release on a vehicle auction dated December 3, 2024, purported to be coming from the Commissioner-General of the GRA,” the statement clarified.
The fraudulent release bears the signature of the former Commissioner-General, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, while referencing the name of the current Commissioner-General, Madam Julie Essiam.
“GRA wishes to inform the general public that the notice circulating in the public domain is FAKE,” the statement emphasized.
The authority urged the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accuracy, advising individuals to rely solely on verified information issued through its official platforms.
This warning follows a surge in reports of scams targeting unsuspecting individuals with false claims of GRA-endorsed auctions.
