No female artist has successfully blended ethno-soul, jazz, and ragga into one song as effortlessly as Nkulee Dube, the 33-year-old singer-songwriter who has quickly made her mark in this challenging yet exhilarating industry.
As the daughter of music legend Lucky Dube, Nkulee carries the weight of her father’s legacy, striving to honor and sustain his name. Her unique sound, described as ‘ethno-ragga,’ merges soul and jazz, showcasing her versatility. Before stepping into the spotlight, Nkulee was no stranger to the music scene, having worked as a backing singer and dancer for the late Lebo Mathosa and later Ntando Bangani.
Nkulee’s stage presence is undeniable. She moves seamlessly between ragga and ethno-soul, making it seem as though she was born to perform. Over the years, she has graced stages worldwide, from Australia to Europe and the USA, as both a guest artist and a backing vocalist with her late father’s band.
