A Plus Clarifies His Parliamentary Focus: “I’m Here for Gomoa Central, Not the Creative Industry”

Kwame Asare Obeng, known in the entertainment world as A Plus, has made it clear that his role as the Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central is not to represent the creative industry. Instead, his focus will be on serving the people who elected him to office.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, A Plus stated that his primary responsibility lies with his constituents, not the entertainment sector.

“My interest is to work and bring satisfaction to the people of Gomoa Central who voted massively for me because of the confidence they have in me. I’m not going to Parliament to fight for the creative industry,” A Plus said. “That is not my business there.”

The musician and comedian also reflected on the lack of support from the creative community during his campaign, noting that no major industry body, such as the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) or the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), rallied behind his bid for office.

“No creative industry person or group put me in Parliament. When I was contesting, there wasn’t any word of support from any creative group,” he said. “It was just a few of my friends in the industry who stood by me throughout. So, I’m going to Parliament to serve the interests of the people of Gomoa Central.”

A Plus won the Gomoa Central seat with 14,277 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, by a margin of 2,640 votes.
