Sarkodie Opens Up About the Personal Story Behind His Latest Hit, ‘No Sir’

Renowned Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has shed light on the inspiration behind his latest hit single, “No Sir.” Released just a few days ago, the song has quickly become a street anthem and a top contender for the festive season’s playlist.

The track delivers a straightforward message: young men should learn to “cut their coat according to their size.” In an interview with Joy News, Sarkodie revealed that the lyrics are rooted in a personal experience that left a lasting impact on him.

“This is a true story,” Sarkodie shared. “It’s something I’ve seen from both perspectives. It happened to me, but not as extreme as this. A friend of mine came from a privileged background—he had a car and his own space in the boys’ quarters of his house. Meanwhile, I came from a middle-class family. My girlfriend, whom everyone knew I was dating, ended up connecting with him. It was a tough pill to swallow, but I learned from it and changed my approach to life from that moment.”

Sarkodie believes the story resonates deeply, especially during the festive season when similar situations tend to unfold. With a chuckle, he remarked, “This December, some people will go out with their girlfriends and end up going back home alone.”

Interestingly, Sarkodie revealed that “No Sir” had been recorded two years ago but remained unreleased due to the political climate at the time. “I didn’t want to release it then, especially with the election tension,” he explained. “But my distributors went ahead, and the feedback has been overwhelming.”

As the song continues to dominate the airwaves, fans are eagerly anticipating Sarkodie’s upcoming Rapperholic concert, where he is expected to deliver another unforgettable performance. With “No Sir” already making waves, it’s clear that Sarkodie’s knack for turning personal experiences into relatable music remains unparalleled.
