Ghana Election 2024: Voting Underway Nationwide

Ghanaians are heading to the polls today in a pivotal general election to choose the country’s next president and 276 members of Parliament.
Regarded as one of the most fiercely contested elections in Ghana’s history, the presidential race has drawn 12 candidates. Among the frontrunners are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Both candidates have conducted energetic campaigns, capturing the nation’s attention in the lead-up to the vote.
Polling stations opened at 7:00 AM, and long queues quickly formed as eager citizens exercised their right to vote. The election’s outcome will not only decide Ghana’s next leader but also shape the composition of its expanded 276-member Parliament.
Election officials, backed by security personnel, are working diligently to ensure a smooth and orderly process. Authorities have emphasized the importance of peaceful participation and adherence to electoral guidelines to uphold the credibility of the vote.
As the day unfolds, many Ghanaians remain optimistic, hoping the election will reinforce the nation’s strong track record for transparent and peaceful democratic transitions.
