Electoral Commission Promises Full Media Access to Polling and Collation Centres

Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has assured the media of unrestricted access to all polling and collation centres across the country for the upcoming elections.
In a press conference held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, Mrs. Mensa emphasized the EC’s commitment to transparency and the essential role the media plays in maintaining public trust throughout the electoral process.
“The media is a vital partner in ensuring credible elections. We guarantee that all media personnel will have full access to our centres to observe and report on the election process in real-time,” she confirmed.
She also encouraged journalists to perform their duties with professionalism, stressing that fair, accurate, and impartial reporting would not only bolster public confidence but also strengthen Ghana’s democratic framework.
The EC Chairperson expressed gratitude to the media for their ongoing support, urging them to continue their critical role in helping the Commission deliver free, fair, and transparent elections.
Addressing recent concerns, Mrs. Mensa reiterated the EC’s unwavering commitment to transparency, assuring the public that the integrity of the election process would be preserved.
This assurance follows protests from a coalition of media groups, who had criticized the EC’s earlier decision to limit access to the National Collation Centre to select media houses. They had called for unrestricted media presence to ensure full transparency in the election process.
