Mzansi Celebs Shine at SA Fashion Week Opening Party

South African Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2025 has officially kicked off, but before the runway action began, Mzansi’s top celebrities gathered for an exclusive opening party. The event, hosted by Cruz Vodka, marked another memorable start to SA Fashion Week, taking place at a new venue.The Venue in Morningside with breathtaking views of the Sandton skyline.

The evening drew South Africa’s most stylish personalities, setting the tone for a week of cutting-edge fashion, glamour, and innovation. Embracing the theme inspired by New York’s legendary nightlife, guests flaunted bold disco-inspired couture, elevating the night to new heights of fashion-forward creativity.

Among the standout attendees was Phupho Gumede, famously known as the “stylist to the stars.” Known for his dramatic outfits, he channeled Cher with a Studio 54-inspired ensemble that followed his signature daring style. Durban socialite Naliyani Uma, from reality show “The Mommy Club: Sugar and Spice,” also wowed the crowd with her look.

Rapper Gigi La Mayne embraced the ’70s disco theme in her own bold way, donning a barely-there leather skirt and crop top that turned heads. TV presenter Maps Maponyane paid homage to Prince, rocking a groovy outfit complete with an unbuttoned shirt that exuded retro flair.

The star-studded guest list featured media personalities and influencers including Penny Lebyane, Robot Boii, Kayise Ngqula, Yaya Mavundla, Money Badoo, and reigning Mr. Supranational, Fezile Mkhize. They all brought their unique sense of style to the red carpet. Social media influencers Coachella Randy and Kagiso Mogola also caught the spotlight with their personal interpretations of the Studio 54 theme.

Notable designers Ole Ledimo and Msukisi Mbane made sure their brands were well represented, and many guests proudly showcased local designers’ creations, emphasizing the celebration of South African talent.
