Legendary Bounty Killer Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at Caribbean Music Awards 2025

The 2025 Caribbean Music Awards was a night filled with history, celebration, and powerful tributes, as legendary Jamaican dancehall icon Bounty Killer received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to music and culture.

The ceremony, held at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, brought together some of the biggest names in reggae, dancehall, soca, and Caribbean entertainment. But the spotlight moment belonged to Bounty Killer, real name Rodney Basil Price  whose decades-long career has shaped not only the dancehall genre but also inspired generations of artists worldwide.

Known as the “Poor People Governor” for his socially conscious lyrics, Bounty Killer has used his music as a voice for the voiceless, addressing themes of poverty, inequality, violence, and resilience while also keeping dancehall at the forefront of global culture.

As he walked on stage to accept the honor, the packed auditorium erupted in cheers and applause. A special tribute performance highlighted his impact, with fellow artists and rising stars delivering renditions of his classics such as Look, Fed Up, and Living Dangerously.

In his acceptance speech, a visibly emotional Bounty Killer thanked his fans, peers, and the Caribbean community for their unwavering support throughout his journey:

“This honor is not just for me; it’s for dancehall, for Jamaica, and for every youth who ever believed in themselves. From Seaview Gardens to the world stage, the mission has always been about the people. This is a celebration of where we came from and where we are heading.”

The award cements Bounty Killer’s status as one of the most influential Caribbean musicians of all time. Over the years, he has mentored and collaborated with numerous artists, including Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Busy Signal, Elephant Man, and international stars like No Doubt, Busta Rhymes, and The Fugees. His legacy is not only in his music but also in his role as a cultural leader, philanthropist, and mentor to the next generation of talent.

Organizers of the Caribbean Music Awards praised Bounty Killer for his authenticity, resilience, and lasting influence. “Bounty Killer is more than an artist — he is a movement, a voice of truth, and a pillar of Caribbean music. Honoring him with the Lifetime Achievement Award is a recognition of his undeniable impact on the world,” said the CMA executive team.

The night concluded with a standing ovation as Bounty Killer raised the award high, signaling a moment of pride not only for Jamaica but for the entire Caribbean.
