Funke Akindele Takes a Stand Against Piracy Ahead of Everybody Loves Jenifa Release

Ahead of the much-anticipated release of her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, Nollywood icon Funke Akindele has issued a strong warning against piracy. In a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, the actress and filmmaker stressed the devastating effects of piracy on the film industry and vowed to take legal action against offenders.

The 47-year-old urged fans to refrain from recording the movie in cinemas, emphasizing that such actions constitute a crime that harms the livelihoods of creatives. Speaking to Vanguard News, she revealed that cinemas are equipped with heightened security measures to catch and prosecute anyone attempting to record or distribute unauthorized content.

Piracy Is a Crime

Akindele reminded her fans of the serious implications of piracy, calling on them to respect the hard work and resources invested in the project.

“If you bring out your phone or any recording device to film Everybody Loves Jenifa in cinemas, you will be arrested. Piracy is a crime, and we are taking it very seriously. Don’t do it.”

She encouraged fans to support her by legal means, such as sharing trailers and teasers or taking photos with promotional materials.

“Promoting the movie means going to the cinema, taking pictures with the standees, and telling others about it. Recording or uploading clips is not support—it is harmful to the industry.”

A Star-Studded Blockbuster

Everybody Loves Jenifa features an impressive cast, including Omowunmi Dada, Nancy Isime, Falz, Stan Nze, and Jackie Appiah.

Funke Akindele’s firm stance highlights the ongoing battle against piracy in Nollywood. She hopes her message will resonate with fans and contribute to safeguarding the future of the industry.
