EC Declared John Dramani Mahama as President-Elect in Ghana’s 2024 Election

John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been declared the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election by the Electoral Commission.
From results across 267 constituencies, excluding nine yet to report, Mr. Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast. His closest challenger, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).
Election Breakdown:
Total votes cast (excluding nine constituencies): 11,191,422
Rejected votes: 239,109
Overall votes cast (including rejected ballots): 11,430,531
Registered voters: 18,774,159
Voter turnout: 60.9%
Nine constituencies, including Awutu Senya East, Dome Kwabenya, and Techiman South, are yet to submit results. These constituencies account for a total of 947,116 registered voters.
Mahama’s Lead Remains Decisive
Electoral Commission Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa clarified that even if all registered voters in the nine outstanding constituencies supported Dr. Bawumia, his total would reach 5,604,420 votes (46.17%), leaving Mr. Mahama with an unassailable lead of 52.13%
Official Declaration
Declaring the results, Mrs. Mensa stated:
“John Dramani Mahama has met all constitutional requirements and is hereby declared President-elect of Ghana. Congratulations, sir—it is finished.”
This victory secures a triumphant return to power for Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s President from 2012 to 2016.
