Okyeame Kwame Explains Why He Rejected Alan Kyerematen’s Running Mate Proposal

Ghanaian musician and social advocate, Okyeame Kwame, has opened up about declining an offer to become the running mate of John Alan Kyerematen, the Presidential Candidate for the Movement for Change.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, Okyeame Kwame revealed that Kyerematen approached him with a compelling proposition during an event in Kumasi. “He asked me to meet him in Accra, where he laid out ten qualities he was seeking in a vice-presidential candidate. It was an honor to be considered,” he said.
The criteria included educational achievements, experience in development, social media influence, professional credibility, and a stable marital life—qualities Okyeame Kwame met with ease. However, he turned down the opportunity due to personal and family commitments.
“My family has clearly defined goals, and entering politics wasn’t part of them. I always preach consistency to my children, so I couldn’t go against that principle by making such a sudden decision,” he explained.
Following his decision, Alan Kyerematen selected Kwame Owusu Danso, a lawyer, PR consultant, and former member of the music group Echo, to fill the position.
Okyeame Kwame, known for his extensive contributions to health, education, and environmental advocacy, continues to focus on societal impact through his various initiatives. As a ‘Made in Ghana’ ambassador, he uses his platform to promote Ghanaian culture and values.
Holding multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics, a Master of Arts in Marketing Strategy, and a Master’s in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Okyeame Kwame remains a role model in and out of the entertainment industry. His latest project, Stop Galamsey, addresses illegal mining, reaffirming his commitment to national progress.
