Zoomlion Secures €40 Million Waste Management Agreement with Two German Firms

The Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) has made a significant stride in waste management by signing a groundbreaking export agreement through its subsidiary, Zoomlion Nigeria Limited, with Germany-based FIMA Industries GmbH and Faun Umwelttechnik GmbH.
Facilitated by the German government’s export credit agency, Euler Hermes, and Oddo BHF Bank, this strategic partnership significantly enhances Zoomlion Nigeria’s waste management capabilities, reinforcing its standing in the industry.
This collaboration merges Zoomlion’s expertise in waste collection and management with FIMA’s advanced technology and international reach. The export deal aims to promote sustainable practices and improve environmental conditions by providing waste management services and equipment.
By leveraging Zoomlion’s proficiency and FIMA’s innovative solutions, the partnership is poised to drive sustainable development across Africa, showcasing the ability to deliver high-quality infrastructure and laying the groundwork for future projects.
The agreement was signed on October 7, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria, in the presence of senior FIMA executives and representatives from the Federal Republic of Germany. Mr. Haider Said, Executive Director of Environment and Sanitation, and Mrs. Habiba Abubakar, Country Director of Zoomlion Nigeria, signed on behalf of the Jospong Group, while Markus Maierhofer, CEO of FIMA Industries, represented his company.
Mr. Said remarked that after Zoomlion’s success in Ghana and its collaboration with FIMA, alongside support from both the German and Lagos governments, they are now focused on establishing three waste treatment plants in Nigeria. He noted, “This contract is valued at approximately €40 million, which will fund the procurement of these facilities.”
He further highlighted that the project aims to significantly impact environmental preservation, projecting a reduction of around 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Over the next 12 to 24 months, the Jospong Group plans to invest approximately $200 million in waste management initiatives in Lagos State. “We hope this project greatly contributes to protecting the environment,” Mr. Said affirmed.
Mr. Maierhofer added that the contract solidifies the free waste treatment plant system in Lagos through Zoomlion, the largest waste management company in Africa. “This will facilitate the recycling of compost to maintain a clean and safe environment,” he stated, emphasizing that “it is a game-changer for reducing waste throughout Lagos State.” He also confirmed an investment of about €10 million in technologies for the waste treatment plant to ensure the project’s success.
According to Lucas Doerr, Head of Business Development Export at Faun Umwelttechnik GmbH, the waste management process will involve collectors gathering waste and transporting it to designated transfer stations.
