Sean Kingston Gets 3.5-Year Prison Sentence in $1M Fraud Case

Rapper Sean Kingston has been sentenced to three and a half years in federal prison after being found guilty of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that defrauded victims out of more than $1 million in luxury goods.

The 34-year-old artist, best known for chart-topping tracks like Beautiful Girls and Fire Burning, was convicted earlier this year along with his mother, Janice Turner. The duo used Kingston’s celebrity status to convince vendors to hand over high-value items ranging from luxury watches and custom furniture to a massive 232-inch LED TV and a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade.

According to federal prosecutors, Kingston whose real name is Kisean Anderson reached out to victims via social media under the guise of purchasing their products. He would invite them to his homes in South Florida, promising to showcase their items on his social media accounts or refer them to other high-profile celebrities.

However, when payment was due, Kingston and his mother allegedly sent fake wire transfer receipts. In most cases, the vendors were never paid. Some only received compensation after filing lawsuits or when law enforcement became involved.

Text messages presented in court revealed direct communication between Kingston and his mother about the fraudulent activity. In one message, Kingston reportedly wrote, “I told you to make [a] fake receipt.”

Before the sentence was handed down, Kingston apologized in court and expressed remorse for his actions. His attorney, Zeljka Bozanic, described the singer as someone who rose to fame quickly and wasn’t prepared for the responsibilities that came with it. “He’s a soft guy who grew up poor,” Bozanic said, adding that Kingston still had the mindset of a teenager and lacked the skills to manage his finances.

Janice Turner, Kingston’s mother, was sentenced in July to five years in federal prison.

Kingston was arrested in 2024 in California just before a scheduled performance at a military base in the Mojave Desert. His arrest followed a police raid on his Fort Lauderdale-area home, where Turner was also taken into custody.

Kingston will begin serving his sentence immediately.
