Gramps Morgan Appointed Tourism Marketing Ambassador for Nashville, Tennessee

Grammy-winning reggae star Gramps Morgan has been honored as a tourism marketing ambassador for Nashville, Tennessee, marking another milestone in his celebrated career. A member of the iconic Morgan Heritage band, Morgan expressed his deep connection to the city, which he considers a second home.

“When I’m not in Jamaica, this city is my home,” Morgan told DancehallMag. “The fact that music means so much to Nashville and that I can represent Reggae Dancehall music here means a lot to me.”

Known for blending reggae with country influences, Morgan has been a pioneer in showcasing the versatility of reggae music. His critically acclaimed solo album, Positive Vibration, highlighted this fusion, incorporating elements of reggae, country, and soul.

Morgan revealed that his appointment as an ambassador stemmed from a memorable performance in Nashville two years ago. “I performed on a show with a big country band named Old Dominion for the city’s tourism association, and that’s where it all began,” he explained.

The ambassadorial role aligns seamlessly with his schedule and personal commitments. While there are no rigid responsibilities, Morgan is called upon to represent the city at various events, promoting its values and musical heritage. “There’s no set timeline for being an ambassador. As long as I’m part of this city and its music scene, I’ll continue to contribute—perhaps even for a lifetime,” he said.

Morgan noted that the role offers unique opportunities but isn’t driven by specific perks. “There’s no special benefit for me or my brand, but the chance to perform at major events is always a great opportunity. For example, in 2022, I shared the stage with Old Dominion, one of the biggest country bands in the world,” he added.

Morgan’s ability to bridge reggae and country music adds depth to his role. His hit single People Like You was celebrated for blending country-inspired melodies with reggae rhythms, a perfect reflection of Nashville’s dedication to musical diversity.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, Morgan settled in Nashville in 2012. The city’s rich musical culture has since become an integral part of his journey.

In 2022, Morgan officially claimed his Jamaican citizenship, calling it “one of the greatest days of my life.” As the son of legendary reggae singer Denroy Morgan, Gramps continues to honor his heritage while forging new paths that connect global audiences through music.
