Ursula Owusu-Ekuful Loses Ablekuma West Seat to NDC’s Rev. Kweku Addo

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the long-serving Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West and a key figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been defeated by Rev. Kweku Addo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This marks a notable political shift in the constituency, reflecting a growing wave of support for the NDC.

Owusu-Ekuful, who had represented the area since 2012, has seen her tenure come to an end as Rev. Addo emerged victorious in the latest election. The outcome signals a changing political landscape in the region.

In other developments, several prominent NPP figures also lost their parliamentary seats. Notably, Henry Quartey, the NPP’s candidate for Ayawaso Central, was defeated by the NDC’s Abdul Rauf Tubazu. Similarly, Farouk Aliu Mahama, the NPP MP for Yendi, lost to Abdul-Fataw Alhassan of the NDC. Provisional results from the collation center showed Alhassan securing 30,707 votes, narrowly edging out Mahama, who received 29,819 votes.

In a further blow to the NPP, current MP for Hohoe, John Peter Amewu, was also unexpectedly defeated. Tourism Minister and Sekondi MP, Andrew Agyapa Mercer, joined the list of NPP losses, underscoring a series of surprising electoral outcomes.
