Ghana 2024 Elections: Mahama Warns Military Personnel Against Interference

John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has issued a stern warning to military personnel allegedly involved in disrupting the declaration of parliamentary results in certain constituencies.
In a statement shared on social media amidst the ongoing collation of election results, the former President condemned what he described as violent actions by “unscrupulous military personnel” deployed to specific areas. He accused these individuals of attempting to sow chaos and undermine the electoral process.

“This is to caution the personnel involved that they will be held individually liable and responsible for their actions,” Mahama emphasized.
His comments come as reports of violence and alleged interference by security forces heighten tensions in some constituencies. Stakeholders and observers have expressed concerns over the potential impact on the credibility of the electoral process.
In response, the Electoral Commission (EC) clarified that it has no role in military deployments, explaining that such matters fall under the purview of the Election Security Task Force.
As the collation of results progresses nationwide, election observers are closely monitoring the situation to ensure fairness and transparency.
