Ghana 2024 Elections: Security Tightened at Collation Centres as Results Phase Begins

The Ghana Police Service, in partnership with the Electoral Commission (EC), has rolled out enhanced security protocols for collation centres nationwide as the electoral process advances to the results collation stage.

At a press briefing earlier today, police officials stressed the critical importance of ensuring law and order during this pivotal phase of the elections.

Strict Access Controls Enforced

To maintain security, stringent measures have been introduced to regulate access and operations at collation centres. Only accredited individuals—such as candidates, their agents, media personnel, and other EC-accredited observers—will be allowed entry. Each entrant will undergo thorough screening.

In addition, unauthorized vehicles will not be permitted within the premises, while motorbikes are strictly prohibited within a 100-meter radius of the centres. These measures align with protocols typically employed during Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Stakeholder Cooperation Encouraged

The police have urged all stakeholders to adhere to these directives to facilitate a smooth and secure collation process.

“We have collaborated with the Electoral Commission to implement robust mechanisms aimed at ensuring security, law, and order across the country,” the police noted in a statement. “We call on all stakeholders to comply fully with these arrangements until the process is concluded.”

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and stability throughout the election period as results collation continues.
