Ghana 2024 Election: Police Outline Security Measures for Collation of Results

The Ghana Police Service has announced comprehensive security measures for the collation of results following the close of polls on December 7, 2024.

In a statement issued after voting concluded, the police emphasized their collaboration with the Electoral Commission (EC) to maintain security, law, and order throughout the collation process.

Key Security Measures:

1. Restricted Access to Collation Centres

Only accredited individuals—including candidates and their agents, media personnel, observers, and others authorized by the EC—will be permitted entry to collation centres.

2. Screening for Weapons

All persons entering the collation centres will undergo thorough screening to ensure no weapons are brought onto the premises.

3. Vehicle and Motorbike Restrictions

Unauthorized vehicles will be barred from entering the premises of collation centres.

Motorbikes will not be allowed within 100 metres of these centres.

The police noted that these measures align with practices typically implemented during Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Ghana.

The statement further urged all stakeholders to adhere strictly to these security arrangements to prevent incidents of violence or disruptions. Counting of ballots at various polling stations is currently ongoing, and collation is expected to begin shortly.

The public has been called upon to support these efforts to ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
