Dec 7 Elections: No Political Victory Is Worth a Human Life – AU Envoy Urges Ghanaians

Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the African Union (AU) High Representative for Silencing the Guns and Chairman of the AU High-Level Panel, has called on Ghanaians to prioritize peace and unity during the country’s December 7 elections.

In a heartfelt appeal delivered on Election Day, Dr. Chambas emphasized the sanctity of human life, stressing that no political victory justifies violence.

“No life is worth sacrificing for the victory of a political party,” he said, urging voters, political leaders, and security personnel to approach the polls with fairness, transparency, and respect for the rule of law.

He highlighted Ghana’s commendable progress as a model of democracy in Africa, warning that any acts of violence could tarnish its reputation as a beacon of peace and good governance.

Dr. Chambas also urged citizens to channel any electoral grievances through legal and non-violent avenues, emphasizing the need for patience and faith in the democratic process.

Acknowledging the efforts of Ghana’s Electoral Commission, he commended its preparations and urged the institution to ensure the elections remain free, fair, and transparent.

As political tensions run high, Dr. Chambas appealed to political parties to accept the electoral outcome and work collectively toward national development.

“Ghana’s democracy has come a long way, and it is the responsibility of every stakeholder to safeguard this achievement,” he said.

With the nation at a critical juncture, Dr. Chambas’ message serves as a timely reminder of the need for unity, peace, and a collective commitment to Ghana’s democratic ideals. As Ghanaians cast their votes, the hope remains that the country will uphold its legacy of peaceful elections.
