2024 Polls: NPP Warns ‘Miscreants’ of Robust System to Expose Electoral Interference

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has assured Ghanaians that their agents, along with the Police, are on high alert to prevent any interference with the electoral process in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Communications Director for the Bawumia team, made this statement after calling for the immediate prosecution of an Electoral Commission (EC) official arrested for issuing ballot papers that did not include the name of the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“We demand the immediate prosecution of this EC official,” Aboagye declared, adding, “To those conspiring with the NDC to disrupt the election, rest assured, we have a robust system in place to identify you.”

The Police have arrested Dery Joseph, an EC official in the Kintampo South Constituency of the Bono East Region, for electoral misconduct. Dery is under investigation for distributing approximately 15 ballot papers at the Ampesika-Bayere polling station that omitted the first presidential candidate on the list.

Voting began at 7 AM nationwide and is expected to end at 5 PM.

On Friday, December 6, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appealed to Ghanaians to vote peacefully and with dignity. He urged citizens to work with the Electoral Commission (EC) and security agencies to ensure a smooth and incident-free election.

In his address to the nation, President Akufo-Addo emphasized, “The flame of freedom needs to be protected and constantly refuelled. Ghana is known as the beacon of democracy in Africa, and we should take pride in this by doing all we can to safeguard it.”

He concluded by urging citizens to “cooperate with the Electoral Commission and the security agencies, and cast your ballot in peace, dignity, tolerance, and mutual respect. We have a reputation to uphold as a nation of peaceful elections.”
