KOD: “If LGBT is Legalized in Ghana, We Might Identify Gays in Parliament”

Ghanaian broadcaster, MC, and fashion enthusiast Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD, has sparked conversations about stereotypes surrounding the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, KOD expressed his views on the misconceptions associating certain professions, particularly fashion and entertainment, with homosexuality.

Challenging the stereotype, KOD emphasized that gay individuals exist across all walks of life. “You can find gays in various communities, not just among fashion icons or musicians,” he stated.

He further suggested that if LGBTQ+ activities were legalized in Ghana, individuals in high-profile spaces, including Parliament, might openly identify as gay. “Because it’s not legalized, such people cannot come out publicly,” he explained.

KOD also highlighted the presence of gay individuals in other sectors such as radio, churches, and other professional spaces. He argued that the perception of fashionistas and entertainers being predominantly gay is misplaced and unfair. “Fashion icons and musicians are more visible, but that doesn’t mean they are the only group where gays can be found,” he concluded.

His comments aim to challenge societal biases and promote a more inclusive understanding of the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana.
