KOD Eyes Album Release Before Turning 50

Renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Kofi Okyere-Darko, popularly known as KOD, has hinted at releasing a music album before celebrating his 50th birthday.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Changes show with Roselyn Felli, KOD revealed his lifelong passion for music and his influential role in shaping the careers of some of Ghana’s finest musical talents.

“I bring the music out of other people. It’s in my head, but it can’t come out of me directly. So, I channel it through others. Over the years, I’ve had an amazing journey in the music space, and I’m excited to revisit it. Nana Kwame recently reached out, suggesting we do one last album together,” KOD shared.

Despite his musical passion, KOD admitted he has held back from creating his own songs due to doubts about his singing voice. However, music producer Kwame Yeboah has challenged him to complete an album before he turns 50—a challenge he has wholeheartedly accepted.

“Kwame Yeboah told me I have until 50 to record my album, or it’s over. He’s even producing it! I’m 46 now, so I have four years to make it happen,” KOD said confidently, adding that the project is already underway.

Describing the upcoming album as “eclectic,” KOD revealed that it will showcase a variety of Ghanaian musical genres, including highlife and gospel. He credited his strategic approach to exploring multiple styles with the numerous award nominations achieved by artists he has worked with.

“We always recorded across genres. We never limited ourselves to just highlife or any single style. I believe every truly talented musician should explore different musical arenas. Look at Samini, King Promise, or Sarkodie—they didn’t stay in one spot, and that’s what keeps them relevant,” KOD remarked.

With his unwavering dedication to music and a collaborative spirit, fans eagerly anticipate what could be a groundbreaking addition to Ghana’s music scene as KOD works towards fulfilling his ambitious goal.
