Black Stars’ AFCON Exit: “The Problem is Mismanagement, Not Talent” – Saddick Adams

Sports journalist Saddick Adams has pushed back against claims that the Black Stars’ poor performance stems from a lack of talent, asserting that the team’s woes are rooted in administrative failures and mismanagement.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, Saddick emphasized that Ghana has a wealth of skilled players excelling in top leagues worldwide. According to him, the disparity between their club performance and national team results points to systemic issues, not player inadequacy.

“You have players performing week in and week out in the topmost leagues in the world. Then they come here, and you wonder: are these the same players from the Premier League or La Liga?” he said. “The problem isn’t talent; it’s an institutional framework that doesn’t work.”

His remarks come after the Black Stars finished last in Group F of the AFCON qualification campaign, with just three points and no wins—a historic low for the four-time African champions.

Saddick also took issue with comments reportedly made by Black Stars coach Otto Addo, suggesting Ghana lacks talent. He dismissed this claim, particularly given the composition of the qualification group, which included Sudan, Niger, and Angola.

“I heard the coach say Ghana doesn’t have talent. You’re in a group with Sudan, Niger, and Angola. Talent shouldn’t be the issue. If we were grouped with Brazil, Spain, or Germany, that would be a different story,” Saddick argued.

He further highlighted Ghana’s impressive player pool, noting that three of the Premier League’s best dribblers are Ghanaians, underscoring the country’s potential.

Saddick Adams concluded by reiterating that the Black Stars’ struggles are the result of governance issues rather than a talent deficit.

“Our issue is not talent—it has never been. The real problem is administrative failure and mismanagement,” he said.
