Ghanaian/International Afro-Roots Reggae icon, Rocky Dawuni has secured his fourth Grammy nomination, this time for Best Global Music Performance at the upcoming 2025 Grammy Awards. The announcement marks yet another milestone in the career of the internationally acclaimed musician.

Rocky’s latest nomination is for his song “Rise,” which has earned him a spot in a competitive category alongside renowned global artists. He will be vying for the Grammy against other celebrated nominees, including Angélique Kidjo and Soweto Gospel Choir with their track “Sunlight to My Soul,” Arooj Aftab’s “Raat Ki Rani,” Jacob Collier’s collaboration with Anoushka Shankar and Varijashree Venugopal on “A Rock Somewhere,” Masa Takumi’s “Kashira,” featuring Ron Korb, Noshir Mody, and Dale Edward Chung, as well as Sheila E., Gloria Estefan, and Mimy Succar’s vibrant “Bemba Colorá.”

This recent nomination is a continuation of Rocky’s impressive Grammy journey. In 2022, his album Voice of Bunbon Vol. 1 was a finalist for Best Global Music Album, while his 2015 album Branches of the Same Tree also brought him Grammy recognition with a Best Reggae Album nomination.
The 67th Grammy Awards ceremony is set for February 2, 2025, at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena. Alongside Rocky’s nomination, African music stars such as Asake & Wizkid with “MMS,” Burna Boy’s “Higher,” Chris Brown’s collaboration with Davido and Lojay on “Sensational,” Tems with “Love Me JeJe,” and Yemi Alade’s “Tomorrow” are all contenders in the Best African Music Performance category, underscoring the global impact of African artists at this year’s Grammy Awards.
