Musician Joe Wizzy Champions Waste Management and Peace Through New Music “Collect the Borla, Process the Borla”

Ghanaian musician Bright Appiah Quaye, popularly known as Joe Wizzy, is leveraging his artistry to promote better waste management and peace in his community.
His latest release, Collect the Borla, Process the Borla, featuring King Pillar, addresses Ghana’s sanitation issues head-on, advocating for improved waste disposal and recycling practices. “We see waste scattered everywhere,” Joe Wizzy remarks. “This inspired me to create an advocacy song this year.”
The song outlines a two-fold approach: responsible waste disposal and efficient processing. Joe Wizzy stresses the need for accessible waste bins and emphasizes the economic potential of recycling to reduce litter while creating opportunities. “We can recycle waste and turn it into income,” he explains, citing how discarded plastics could be repurposed. Through Collect the Borla, Process the Borla, he hopes to reach government authorities, particularly the Ministry of Sanitation, urging them to prioritize waste bins at key locations. “I want them to know that musicians are advocating for cleaner communities,” he adds.
Joe Wizzy’s dedication to social causes also extends to promoting peace. As a longstanding member of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), where he has served as Greater Accra Regional Secretary, he recognizes music’s potential for social impact.
In 2016, in the lead-up to Ghana’s elections, he organized 22 musicians, including gospel star Empress Gifty Adorye, to record Nation Peace Song, a call for a peaceful voting process. The song’s influence resonated nationwide, earning the “Peace Song of the Year” award from the Ghana Peace Council at the 2017 Ghana Peace Awards.
In 2020, he revived this peace initiative under the Nation Peace Project banner, collaborating with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for a concert that spotlighted the importance of peaceful elections. Additionally, he curated an album titled MGA Nation Peace Album, featuring peace-themed songs from MUSIGA members. Launched at the Mikado Conference Center, the album has since served as a lasting peace-promoting resource during elections and beyond.
Reflecting on his work with MUSIGA, Joe Wizzy says with pride, “The union now has a peace album as a blueprint for advocacy.” His efforts showcase how musicians can be powerful voices for social progress and unity.
