Twinsdontbeg: Our Father Stopped Us from Pursuing Secular Music

Dynamic duo photographers Twinsdontbeg recently shared their inspiring story about how their dreams of a music career were halted by their father’s disapproval.
In an interview on Joy Learning’s The Career Trail, they recounted how their passion for music blossomed after moving to Tema to stay with their older sister. During this time, Tema’s vibrant music scene was emerging, with artists like Sarkodie, Yaa Pono, and D Cryme starting their careers.
The twins were drawn into this creative environment, often visiting studios and collaborating with these musicians. “We moved to our big sister in Tema, and that was when the Tema music scene was taking off. Sarkodie was just beginning, along with Yaa Pono, Yaw Ziggy, Stay Jay, and D Cryme. We started going to their studios and making music,” they explained.
They recorded their first song, followed by collaborations with D Cryme and Yaw Ziggy. However, their father, a church elder, strongly opposed their musical ambitions, citing religious reasons. “Our dad shut us down. He was a Pentecost church elder, and our parents were quite religious. He firmly stated there was no way we could pursue music,” they said.
Despite their father’s disapproval, the twins secretly continued to record and promote their music, even appearing on television and radio. Their father’s discovery of their activities led to his anger and disappointment, ultimately forcing the twins to abandon their musical dreams. “We found ways to keep making music, and we started promoting our songs on TV and radio. Each time, people would inform my dad, which made him really upset,” they revealed.
Although their father would have been supportive of gospel music, the twins felt that genre did not resonate with their artistic vision. This pivotal experience redirected their path, guiding them to discover new passions that eventually led to their success as photographers.
Last week, on The Career Trail, we introduced the first part of the twins’ journey, exploring their early life. Stay tuned for the second part of their interview this Saturday, November 2, where we will delve into their evolution as photographers. The episode airs on Joy Learning TV at 4 PM and on Joy News at 6:30 PM. Don’t miss it!
