Ghana Gears Up for 40th National Farmers’ Day Celebration on November 8

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced that the 40th National Farmers’ Day celebration will take place on Friday, November 8, 2024, in the Greater Accra Region.

The event, an annual tribute to Ghana’s hardworking farmers and fishermen, underscores their crucial role in the nation’s economy and food security. This year’s theme, “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security,” reflects Ghana’s commitment to advancing agricultural methods that tackle climate change impacts.

In a statement on October 23, the Ministry introduced Agrifest Ghana 2024, a five-day National Agricultural Fair from November 4 to November 8, as part of the Farmers’ Day activities. Agrifest aims to showcase Ghana’s agricultural diversity, fostering knowledge-sharing and innovation while bringing together farmers and stakeholders from across the country.

The celebrations will culminate in a National Awards Night on November 8, where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will honor outstanding farmers in 16 categories. Recognitions will include the prestigious Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, and National Best Physically Challenged Farmer, underscoring the significance of these contributions to Ghana’s agricultural sector.

This year’s Farmers’ Day is set to foster dialogue on sustainable farming practices in the face of environmental changes. Traditionally observed in December, the celebration has been advanced to November this year to accommodate Ghana’s upcoming general elections.
