Ayra Starr Opens Up on Her Dream Partner: “Not a Musician, Maybe a Billionaire”
Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr has shared that when she’s finally ready for romance, her ideal partner will be far from the music industry. Despite having never been in a fully committed relationship, Ayra has a clear vision of what she wants in a future relationship.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, American singer Coco Jones asked Ayra if she’d date someone in the industry. Laughing, Ayra responded, “In the dream world, it wouldn’t be somebody that is in the industry. Probably just like a billionaire. On a yacht. In Dubai. In a thong.” Her playful answer was a nod to a viral social media trend about living a luxurious, carefree life.
Talking about her high standards, the “Rush” singer revealed that her decision to wait until after launching her music career has raised her expectations even further. “I’m so happy I wasn’t really dating before I started music. I didn’t really know what I was missing. So now that I waited this long to date people, I have very high standards. If it’s gonna be hard to meet it, it’s gonna be bye-bye. But also, I don’t have time for myself, let alone a boy,” she added humorously.
In another recent interview with Dazed Magazine, Ayra expressed a desire for romance, sharing, “I want to fall in love. I wrote ‘Lagos Love Story’ about what love would look like if I was.” Though she considers herself a “lover girl” at heart, she remains single.
Ayra also clarified that she’s never been in a fully committed relationship, stating, “I’m just very strong-headed about it. I actually have never been in love… I’ve been in certain situations—not situationships!—but I’ve never been in a fully committed relationship.”
