Nomcebo Zikode Unites Africa with Global Anthem “META” Featuring Sofiya Nzau and Fireboy DML

From Africa to the world, the continent’s extraordinary talent knows no bounds.

Grammy Award-winning artist Nomcebo Zikode has joined forces with Kenyan musician Sofiya Nzau and Nigerian singer-songwriter Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan, known as Fireboy DML, to release the track “META.”
This infectious three-step dance anthem not only highlights the rich diversity of African music but also has the potential to become a continental and global sensation.
With “META,” listeners are introduced to the three-step genre, which celebrates creativity and diversity by blending traditional African rhythms with contemporary influences. The result is a sound that feels both fresh and deeply rooted in cultural heritage.

The three-step subgenre draws inspiration from the popular Afro-tech sounds championed by local artists like Mörda and Oscar Mbo. Lesego Nkooe Junior, known as JNR SA, is recognized as a pioneer of this sound and elaborated on its universal appeal in an interview with DRUM.
“Three-step is a sound within the Afro house genre, introduced by my friend and fellow producer Thakzin. It serves as a bridge between amapiano and Afro house,” JNR SA explained. “You can play it at almost any event, and people will vibe to it. The three-step sound is characterized by the kick, played in a beat of three, along with the snare drum that emphasizes the log drum and sub-bass.”
Nomcebo’s collaboration with Sofiya and Fireboy DML showcases the innovative spirit of African artists and their ability to create music that transcends borders. Known for her powerful and emotive performances, Nomcebo has recently enjoyed the success of her single “iZono Zami” and has performed in various countries, including France and Germany, bringing South Africa’s unique sound to a global audience.
“I strongly believe in collaboration within the music industry, so I am thrilled to work alongside fellow African artists Fireboy DML and Sofiya,” Nomcebo Zikode shared. “This song is a celebration of our diverse sounds coming together beautifully, representing the richness of our African culture and the connections we share.”
Nomcebo’s powerful vocals blend seamlessly with Fireboy DML’s infectious Afrobeat and Sofiya’s ethereal melodies, creating a captivating musical experience.
