Asake Receives BRIT Silver Plaque for 'Work of Art' at Sold-Out O2 Arena Show

On September 22, 2024, Afrobeats sensation Asake was honored with a BRIT silver plaque for his sophomore album “Work of Art” during his sold-out concert at London’s iconic O2 Arena.

The award ceremony took place amidst Asake’s ongoing world tour following the release of his third album, “Lungu Boy”. The tour has seen him headline major venues across the globe, including the famous O2 Arena, where he delivered an unforgettable performance of his biggest hits.

The sold-out concert was graced by Grammy-winning artist Wizkid and Hollywood star Idris Elba, who presented Asake with both the sold-out recognition and the prestigious BRIT silver plaque for “Work of Art”. The night was a testament to Asake’s growing international appeal, especially in the UK, where all three of his albums have reached the top of the UK Apple Music Album Chart — a record achievement for a Nigerian artist.

Asake’s latest milestone at the O2 Arena solidifies his status among Afrobeats royalty. He now joins the ranks of fellow Nigerian superstars Davido and Wizkid, who have each headlined multiple sold-out shows at the venue.

The O2 Arena has become a key stage for showcasing the global rise of Afrobeats. Davido made history in 2018 as the first Nigerian solo act to headline the venue, followed by Wizkid, who not only headlined in 2019 but also achieved an unprecedented three consecutive sold-out nights in 2021.

Asake’s achievement further cements the genre’s dominance on the global stage and highlights his position as a leading figure in its expansion.
