Tyla’s Local ‘Tygers’ Upset Over Exclusive Coke Studio Competition for U.S. and Canadian Fans

Tyla’s South African fans, affectionately known as ‘Tygers,’ are expressing frustration after news broke that a special all-expenses-paid Coke Studio competition is only open to entrants from the United States and Canada.
The competition, which offers fans from those regions the chance to see the amapiano sensation perform live in her hometown of Johannesburg this December, has left many of her local supporters feeling excluded.
The “Sweepstakes” competition, open to U.S. and Canada residents aged 18 and older, features an impressive grand prize: a fully-funded trip for four to Johannesburg to attend Tyla’s live concert. The package includes concert tickets, four nights of hotel accommodation, round-trip airfare, and R26,358 ($1,500) in spending money.
While international fans are excited about the chance to see the “Water” hitmaker live in South Africa, many of her local fans have taken to social media to voice their disappointment, noting that they feel overlooked.
One fan, @haileybeibsnews, tweeted, “I support everything, but not this! There are South Africans who want to see Tyla live so badly, but it’s not affordable for everyone, especially those living far from JHB (like me).”
Tyla’s performance in Johannesburg, dedicated exclusively to the competition’s winners, is set to be a special homecoming event. However, this announcement has left many South African fans with a sense of FOMO (fear of missing out), as they hope for more inclusive opportunities to see their hometown star live without the barriers of cost or travel distance.
For now, while the competition fuels excitement among international fans, Tyla’s South African supporters are left waiting for their own moment to share in the experience.
