NRSA issues weather advisory for motorists on Konkonuru-Aburi road over poor visibility, slippery conditions

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has issued an alert to motorists and the public using the Konkonuru to Aburi road in the Eastern Region to be cautious, as adverse weather conditions pose a serious threat to road safety along that corridor.
In a statement issued by the NRSA on August 28, 2025, the Authority said recent periods of rainfall and fog have led to significantly reduced visibility, particularly during the early mornings and late evenings.
The NRSA expressed concerns that wet and slippery road surface increases the likelihood of vehicles skidding, while steep gradients and sharp curves along the Aburi hills become even more treacherous in such conditions.
The Authority further noted that heavy downpours may cause falling debris and poor drainage, which could obstruct sections of the road and further endanger motorists.
NRSA strongly advised drivers to reduce speed, keep headlights on low beam when visibility is poor, and maintain adequate braking distance from vehicles ahead.
The Authority urged motorists to be extra cautious when taking curves and slopes, and advised that overtaking should be avoided until conditions are safe.
Motorists are also encouraged to ensure that their vehicles are in proper condition, with brakes, tyres, lights, and wipers all functioning effectively before embarking on journeys along this stretch.
The NRSA emphasized that the safety of all road users depends on vigilance and discipline. “The Authority continues to remind motorists that it is far better to arrive late than not to arrive at all.”
