Akofa Edjeani Advocates for Competent Leadership in Creative Arts Sector

Veteran actress Akofa Edjeani has urged President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize the creative arts sector by appointing qualified individuals to leadership positions within the industry.
In an interview with Lexis Bill on Joy FM’s Drive Time, Akofa stressed the importance of strong leadership to unlock the sector’s potential and drive growth. She called for a comprehensive approach to restructuring the creative arts, beginning with the right appointments.
“This time, we need to have a serious roundtable discussion and set things straight. If the President truly wants to rebuild, he must appoint people who understand the socio-economic impact of the arts. This includes recognizing its role in employment creation, wellness, and national branding,” she stated.
Akofa further highlighted the indispensable role of arts and culture in national development, describing it as the “soul of a nation.”
“Film and theatre are essential to the growth of any nation. Culture forms the foundation of everything, yet we often treat arts and culture as secondary. This disconnection hinders progress,” she explained.
She emphasized the importance of laying a solid foundation to support sustainable development in the creative arts.
“If we don’t get the basics right, everything we try to build will keep collapsing, as has been the case for years,” Akofa warned.
As President Mahama finalizes appointments for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, several names, including Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Sadiq Abdulai Abu, and Rex Owusu Marfo, are being speculated for key positions.
Akofa’s comments underline the need for intentional leadership to ensure the creative arts sector receives the attention and support it requires to thrive.
