Jubilee House Sets January 3, 2025, Deadline for Return of Government Vehicles

The Office of the President has directed all government appointees to return official vehicles in their possession by January 3, 2025. This mandate comes as the administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo approaches the conclusion of its second and final term.
In a statement issued by the Communications Directorate of Jubilee House, the President’s Office reminded outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, Aides to the President and Vice President, and other political appointees of the rules governing the use of state vehicles.
“All government vehicles in the possession of these appointees must be returned to the Chief Director of the relevant Ministries no later than Friday, 3rd January, 2025,” the statement emphasized.
The directive reinforces a policy introduced in 2020 during President Akufo-Addo’s first term, which ended the longstanding practice of allowing political appointees to purchase government vehicles. Unlike previous administrations that permitted appointees to acquire a single official saloon car, this administration has upheld stricter measures to ensure accountability and prudent use of state resources.
The policy applies to all categories of political appointees, including those serving on Statutory Boards and Corporations. Jubilee House urged all affected individuals to fully comply with the directive, underscoring its importance in maintaining transparency and safeguarding public assets during the transition period.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to responsible resource management as it prepares for the handover of power.
