South Africa’s Tyla to Shine at 2024 Billboard Music Awards with Performance and Multiple Nominations
South African breakout star Tyla is set to light up the stage at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), where she is also a finalist in eight categories. Her impressive nominations include three entries in the highly competitive Top Afrobeats Song category.
The BBMAs, hosted by comedian and actress Michelle Buteau, will broadcast live on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX and Fire TV Channels, with on-demand streaming available via Paramount+. Joining an exciting lineup that already includes K-pop sensations SEVENTEEN and singer-songwriter Teddy Swims, Tyla will perform her chart-topping hits that have captivated audiences worldwide. Her viral single “Water” climbed to No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year and secured the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance. Her debut album, Tyla, also made waves, peaking at No. 24 on the Billboard 200.
The rising star’s eight nominations span across key categories, including Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist, Top Afrobeats Artist, Top R&B Album (Tyla), and Top R&B Song. In the Top Afrobeats Song category, she stands out with three hits: “Truth or Dare,” “Water,” and “Jump,” her collaboration with Gunna and Skillibeng.
The BBMAs mark a return to FOX, which aired the awards from its inception in 1990 until 2006. This year’s event will showcase exclusive performances, artist interviews, and celebrations from global locations and sold-out tours.
