“If You Can’t Afford Rent in Accra, Return to Your Village” – Edem Responds to Netizen’s Plea for GHS 2,000

Ghanaian rapper Edem has stirred conversation online with his blunt response to a netizen who sought financial assistance during his TikTok live session.
The individual, who was struggling to pay rent in Accra, asked the ‘Gbevu’ hitmaker for GHS 2,000. However, Edem’s reply was far from what the person may have expected. The rapper advised the individual to return to their village if they couldn’t afford to live in the capital. He pointed out that accommodation would be easier to secure there, with ample space to stay.
In the same session, Edem addressed another user who claimed he hadn’t compensated them after they created a drawing of him. The rapper dismissed the complaint, stating he never requested the artwork and rhetorically asked if the person was aware of the countless fans who also draw him out of admiration.
Edem criticized what he perceived as a growing trend of people using creative tributes as a strategy to solicit money from public figures.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some praising his honesty while others labeled the remarks as insensitive.
