Court Ruling Nullifies Over 1,000 Voter Transfers in Manhyia South

The Kumasi Magistrate’s Court has declared the transfer of more than 1,000 voters to the Manhyia South constituency invalid. Presiding Magistrate Gyaawa Donkor has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to promptly restore these voters to their original constituencies.
The ruling came after a legal challenge by Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Manhyia South, who alleged that the transfers were orchestrated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Upon discovering the alleged irregularities, Awuah mobilized local polling station executives and residents to formally object to the transfers, asserting that many of the individuals involved did not actually reside in the constituency. These objections were submitted using Objection Forms in compliance with Regulation 23 of CI 91, which requires proof of residency.
In a court hearing held on September 20, 2024, landlords of the properties associated with the transferred voters testified, stating that the individuals in question did not live at the registered addresses.
Following the court’s decision, the Ghana News Agency attempted to contact Ms. Rita Gyamfua Amonu, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, for her comments on the ruling, but she declined to provide any response.
