Doreen Avio Calls for Stronger Support for Female Musicians

Renowned Ghanaian media personality Doreen Avio is urging the music industry to step up support for female artistes, emphasizing that talent alone isn’t enough to succeed without proper backing.
“Female musicians have immense talent, but they often face barriers that make it harder for them to grow compared to their male counterparts. We need to do more to support, promote, and celebrate them,” Avio said.
She pointed out that women in music often struggle to get the same media coverage, bookings, and brand opportunities as men, stressing the need for mentorship programs and collaborative platforms to level the playing field.
“It’s not about favoritism; it’s about ensuring talent is recognized and given the space to thrive,” she added.
Avio highlighted the achievements of Ghanaian female artistes who have broken barriers despite challenges and called on fans, media, and industry stakeholders to consistently invest in and empower women in music.
“We must not just celebrate women occasionally; we must invest in them consistently. When female musicians thrive, the industry thrives,” she concluded.
Her message is a reminder that supporting female talent isn’t just fair—it’s essential for the growth and diversity of Ghana’s music industry.
