Ghana and South Africa Sign Historic MoU to Boost Arts, Culture and Tourism

In a landmark move to deepen cultural diplomacy and strengthen creative collaboration, Ghana has signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Arts Council of South Africa (NACSA).

The signing ceremony brought together key industry leaders, including Mr. Rex Omar (Rex Owusu Marfo), Executive Director of the Black Star Experience, and Mr. Kofi Okyere-Darko, Director of Diaspora Affairs. They represented Ghana alongside the Hon. Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Hon. Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto.

The agreement paves the way for expanded cooperation across the arts, tourism, music, film, and hospitality sectors, creating new platforms for cultural exchange, market access, training, and joint research.

“This partnership is not just about tourism and entertainment; it is about empowering our creatives, opening new markets, and showcasing African excellence on the global stage,” stakeholders emphasized.

From flagship events such as Afro Future, Tidal Rave, Beyond The Return, and the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), to collaborative training and research initiatives, the MoU promises wide-ranging opportunities for shared growth and innovation.

The pact underscores Ghana and South Africa’s joint commitment to celebrating African heritage, fostering people-to-people connections, and positioning the continent’s creative industries as engines of economic and cultural transformation.
