‘Bob Marley: One Love’ Film Scores Six Nominations at 2025 NAACP Image Awards

The biographical drama Bob Marley: One Love, produced by Paramount Pictures, has garnered six nominations for the 2025 NAACP Image Awards. The film, which explores a pivotal chapter in the life of reggae legend Bob Marley, is in the running for several of the event’s most prestigious honors.

Competing for Outstanding Motion Picture, Bob Marley: One Love is up against other standout films, including Bad Boys: Ride or Die, The Piano Lesson, The Six Triple Eight, and Wicked.

Acting Recognition

Kingsley Ben-Adir, who delivers a powerful portrayal of Bob Marley, has earned a nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture. He will compete against André Holland (Exhibiting Forgiveness), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), John David Washington (The Piano Lesson), and Martin Lawrence (Bad Boys: Ride or Die).

Lashana Lynch, recognized for her role as Rita Marley, is nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture. Her category rivals include Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Kerry Washington (The Six Triple Eight), Lupita Nyong’o (A Quiet Place: Day One), and Regina King (Shirley).

Directing and Ensemble Nods

Director Reinaldo Marcus Green is nominated for Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture, joining a competitive field that includes Jeymes Samuel (The Book of Clarence), Malcolm Washington (The Piano Lesson), RaMell Ross (Nickel Boys), and Steve McQueen (Blitz).

The film’s ensemble cast is also recognized in the Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture category, competing with casts from The Book of Clarence, The Piano Lesson, The Six Triple Eight, and Wicked.

Soundtrack Highlights

The movie’s soundtrack, which celebrates Bob Marley’s iconic music, is nominated for Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation Album. It faces competition from soundtracks for Genius: MLK/X, Reasonable Doubt (Season 2), The Book of Clarence, and Wicked.

NAACP Image Awards Overview

The NAACP Image Awards celebrate outstanding achievements across media, including film, television, theatre, music, and literature. The annual ceremony, presented by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), features over 40 categories voted on by NAACP members.

The 2025 winners will be revealed during a live broadcast on February 22, airing on BET and CBS from the Pasadena Civic Center.

International Music Highlights

In the music categories, South African singer Tyla’s hit Jump, featuring Skillibeng and Gunna, is nominated for Outstanding International Song. Jamaican artist Skip Marley also secured a nod for his track Close, marking his second Image Award nomination following his 2021 recognition for Outstanding New Artist.

Previous winners in the Outstanding International Song category include TEMS, who took home the award in 2023 for her rendition of Bob Marley’s No Woman, No Cry, and Koffee, who won in 2021 for her hit Lockdown.
