King Promise Secures 2025 MOBO Awards Nomination for Best African Music Act

Ghana’s Afrobeat star King Promise has earned a nomination for the prestigious 2025 MOBO Awards in the fiercely contested Best African Music Act category.

Known for his chart-topping hit “Terminator,” King Promise will compete against a stellar lineup of African music heavyweights, including Asake, Ayra Starr, Tems, Odumodu Blvck, Shallipopi, Tyla, and Uncle Waffles.

This marks King Promise’s second nomination at the MOBO Awards, following his first recognition in 2021. At that time, the accolade went to Nigerian superstar Wizkid, a global pioneer in African music.

The nomination highlights King Promise’s growing influence in the international music arena as he continues to raise Ghana’s Afrobeat flag on the global stage.

The MOBO Awards: Honoring Excellence in Black Music

The MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards, established in 1996 by Kanya King, celebrate outstanding achievements in music genres originating from Black communities. Over nearly three decades, the awards have become a global stage for recognizing excellence in hip-hop, R&B, soul, reggae, gospel, jazz, and the ever-expanding Afrobeats genre.

Amplifying African Music on a Global Stage

In recent years, the MOBO Awards have played a significant role in showcasing African music’s meteoric rise by introducing the Best African Music Act category. This category has spotlighted iconic artists such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Tems, reaffirming Africa’s growing dominance in global music.

More Than Just Awards

Beyond the accolades, the MOBO organization actively supports emerging talent through initiatives like the MOBO UnSung competition, ensuring the next generation of artists and creatives have the tools to succeed.

A Cultural Milestone

The MOBO Awards are a celebration of Black culture, resilience, and innovation. With its legacy of elevating underrepresented voices, the MOBO platform continues to shape and inspire global music and culture, making it a cornerstone in the recognition of Black excellence.

As King Promise prepares to represent Ghana once again on this prestigious stage, his nomination signals another step forward for Ghanaian and African music on the global map.
