Ghana’s Chief of Defence Staff Advocates for Stronger Military Collaboration with the US Army 

Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has called for enhanced military cooperation between Ghana and the United States to confront the security challenges facing West Africa.

During the Association of the United States Army’s (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington DC on October 14, 2024, Lieutenant General Oppong-Peprah met with the US Army Chief of Staff to discuss strengthening military ties between the two nations.

The AUSA event, themed “Transforming for a Complex World,” spanned three days and attracted over 33,000 global participants. It featured 775 exhibitions and discussions on key security issues.

Lieutenant General Oppong-Peprah also held talks with Major General Andrew C. Gainey, Commanding General of the US Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), where they explored new opportunities for training collaboration and joint initiatives.

Further discussions were held with Colonel William Ackah from the US Army War College, focusing on deepening strategic cooperation between the GAF and the US military.
