Oliver Barker-Vormawor Granted Ghc20k Bail in Democracy Hub Protest Case

Oliver Barker-Vormawor has received bail from the Accra High Court concerning his involvement in the Democracy Hub street protest case. He is facing multiple charges, including stealing a police car key, conspiracy, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct conducive to a breach of peace, assault on a public officer, and defacement of public property.

On Wednesday, October 16, the court granted him bail set at GH₵20,000, requiring two sureties. As part of the bail conditions, Barker-Vormawor must report to the police twice a week.

He is one of 53 individuals charged in this case. During the hearing, the judge highlighted concerns about Barker-Vormawor’s potential to commit further offenses, particularly due to his previous bail violations.

Initially, he was denied bail by the Circuit Court during his first appearance on September 26, 2024. Despite his legal team, led by Justice Srem-Sai, filing for bail, the High Court rejected the request on October 7.
