Elaine Releases Her Highly Anticipated Debut Album, ‘Stone Cold Heart’

Elaine has officially released her long-awaited debut album, and fans are absolutely loving it! It has been five years since the talented singer-songwriter made her mark in the music industry with the chart-topping hit “You’re the One.”

Her latest album features 14 tracks, and R&B enthusiasts can’t stop raving about it. Anticipation has been building since the release of the lead single, “Waiting on You,” on August 2nd.

Since 2020, Elaine has poured her heart and soul into this project, crafting an album that reflects the wild and magical experiences of her 20s. Each song tells a piece of her story, and through this journey, she has gained a deeper appreciation for her artistry.

In an interview with GQ, Elaine discussed her creative process and her determination to carve her own path as an independent artist.

Elaine: “‘Waiting On You’ embodies the core essence of who I am, and the reception has been filled with warmth, love, and nostalgia, which is such a beautiful experience. It’s the only song on the album that captures that vibe, making it very special.”

GQ: What took you so long to release your debut album, and what was the creative process like?

Elaine: “Life! I never expected this journey to take so long. Time flies— it feels like I just started working on this album yesterday. I’ve been dedicated to it since 2020, immersing myself in countless music camps across the country and moving to LA to bring my envisioned soundscape to life. I focused on every detail, even those that seemed minor. It was essential for me to be intentional with my storytelling and the sound’s evolution. This album is a reflection of my chaotic yet magical 20s, holding the stories of my life. I’ve come to value the journey more than anything, and it has deepened my appreciation for my craft.”

GQ: How has your sound evolved since your debut EP “Elements” in 2019?

Elaine: “My sound is constantly evolving, which keeps things exciting and fresh for me. I’m passionate about exploring parts of myself and my talent that I’ve yet to master. I never want to repeat myself, and I continually push myself to try new things, which naturally influences my music. With this project, I set no limits on what I wanted to express or how I wanted to produce it. I really let loose and had a great time.”

GQ: Your debut EP was a major success and helped launch your music career. Does releasing a full album feel daunting?

Elaine: “Not at all! It’s exhilarating and inspiring. I can’t believe I’ve done this, and I’m eager to experience more of it. I’m grateful to be living out my dreams.”

GQ: What’s the significance of the album title “Stone Cold Heart”?

Elaine: “It represents my journey of learning when to stop being overly accommodating. It’s about recognizing the fine line between being a people person and a people pleaser. I’ve faced many situations where my good heart seemed to put me at a disadvantage. This album is about reclaiming my power and embracing my truth. It’s about allowing my heart to guide me while not letting my emotions paralyze me.”

GQ: Do you have a favorite track on the album?

Elaine: “I love every song, all 14 of them. But ‘Love Me Slowly’ stands out! The energy is incredible, and I love how R&B and rock blend seamlessly in that track.”

GQ: How did your experience releasing five singles with Columbia Records before going independent shape your journey?

Elaine: “Every step is a learning curve, and I’m thankful for my time with Columbia. It was a significant chapter in my life, and I learned so much about the music industry, especially as a South African black woman. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s a great time to be alive and making music.”

GQ: What advice do you wish you had received when you first entered the music industry?

Elaine: “To prioritize my voice! There are so many opinions and agendas, and I’ve learned the importance of ensuring my voice takes up space instead of sidelining my own feelings for others.”

GQ: You’ve been open about your struggles with depression and imposter syndrome. How are you feeling now, and how do you maintain your mental health?

Elaine: “I’m living life to the fullest and in a great place! I’ve done the hard work and am finally embracing what it feels like to be restored. I’m grateful for my family and trusted friends who uplift me and keep me grounded.”

GQ: How does your law degree impact your music career?

Elaine: “It benefits me daily! Education is vital. There’s so much administration, organization, and strategizing behind an album, and having that background makes everything a bit easier.”

GQ: What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

Elaine: “There are so many, but releasing my EP and debut album tops the list! Traveling the world because of my music is also a forever highlight.”
