Election 2024: Polls Close Nationwide as Sorting and Counting Begin

Voting has officially ended across all 276 constituencies in the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections.

The polls, which opened early Saturday morning, witnessed a strong voter turnout as citizens showed up in large numbers at polling stations to choose the nation’s next president and members of the 9th Parliament.

According to the Electoral Commission (EC), the process has been largely peaceful, transparent, and credible. However, isolated incidents of violence and alleged electoral malpractices were reported in certain constituencies.

Tensions remain high as the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) trade accusations of attempts to influence the election results.

With polls now closed, electoral officers have commenced the sorting and counting of ballots. The nation waits with bated breath for the announcement of the official results.
